Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has launched a major digital initiative under the Chief Minister’s 100-day action plan, aimed at enabling citizens to register births, deaths, and marriages entirely online, from application to certificate delivery, without visiting civic offices.
During a recent inspection of the Koparkhairane Divisional Office, Dr Shinde reviewed existing processes and directed that the systems be overhauled using advanced technology to make them faster and more citizen-friendly. Inspired by the passport application model, the marriage registration process will now include digital document uploads and appointment confirmations via SMS. Citizens will be able to apply independently or through Setu centres.
In addition, Dr Shinde has pushed for full digitalisation of other municipal services including debris permits, ground usage permissions, and property tax transfers. Document requirement boards will be displayed in offices, and departmental registers will be monitored for accuracy. Assistant Commissioner Vasant Mundavare has been tasked with simplifying ground usage rules.
The Commissioner also called for maintaining updated records of private institutions like schools, colleges, and hospitals within each division. During the same visit, he inspected the Koparkhairane Maternity and Child Hospital, directing the widening of entrances and speedy project completion.
With rapid implementation underway across all departments, Dr Shinde’s initiative is transforming NMMC’s service delivery, making it more transparent, efficient, and accessible.
