Koper Kharirane: Nilima Upadhyaya, a music teacher at Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) CBSE School No. 94, has been nominated for the Best Teacher 2026 award. She will be felicitated on September 6 at an auditorium in Ulwe by Vidhyaiva Sarbhadhanam, organised by the IN Major City group.

A Kopar Khairane resident and trained classical vocalist, Upadhyaya teaches Hindustani classical music and has focused on developing her students’ singing abilities while nurturing confidence, discipline and a lasting appreciation for music.

Her work has also earned recognition for the school. Last year, the institution’s music group, trained under her guidance, won the district-level trophy in a music competition organised by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

Upadhyaya’s association with music began at the age of three, when she started learning from her mother. She has since pursued the art with dedication, earning several accolades along the way. Despite being an educator, she continues to train under different music gurus, reflecting her commitment to learning and improving her craft.

Speaking about her journey, Upadhyaya said, “The greatest achievement for me as a teacher is seeing my students sing with confidence and develop a love for music.”

She added, “The day they get an opportunity to perform and gain exposure in the outside world as singers will be the best reward for me.”

Her nomination recognises not only her contribution to music education but also her sustained efforts to give young students confidence, exposure and a strong foundation in the performing arts and expression.
