Workshop aimed at implementation of measures by sanitation officers and employees

Navi Mumbai: As the city gears up for Swachh Survekshan 2024, a capacity-building workshop for sanitation officers and employees of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was successfully conducted at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Bhavan, Vashi. The workshop, held under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, aimed at ensuring effective implementation of sanitation measures in line with the newly launched Swachh Survekshan 2024 toolkit.

The workshop follows the recent launch of the Swachh Survekshan 2024 toolkit by Union Minister for Urban Development, Manohar Lal Khattar. This year, a special category called the “Super Swachh League” has been introduced for cities that have consistently performed well in the cleanliness survey. Navi Mumbai, Indore, and Surat are the three cities included in this prestigious category, a recognition that brings both pride and greater responsibility.

Speaking at the event, Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar emphasised that retaining Navi Mumbai’s top-tier ranking requires collaborative efforts across all municipal departments, including the Solid Waste Management Department. He urged officials to assess their work through the eyes of Swachh Survekshan inspectors, ensuring that any shortcomings are immediately identified and rectified.

“Cleanliness and beautification are a collective responsibility, and maintaining coordination across departments is crucial. Waste segregation at the source must be increased, and maximum awareness must be created among citizens to encourage greater participation in sanitation initiatives”, said Pawar.

The Swachh Bharat Mission has introduced changes in assessment criteria for Swachh Survekshan 2024, including modifications in evaluation and ranking methods. Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management, Circle 2) Santosh Warule stated that the workshop was designed to equip sanitation officers and employees with the latest assessment methodologies to ensure a more strategic and well-organised approach to sanitation management.

During the session, Yogesh Jadhav delivered a detailed presentation on the revised scoring system and implementation strategies outlined in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 toolkit.

The workshop saw participation from key officials, including Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner Somnath Potre, Zone 2 Deputy Commissioner Dr Kailash Gaikwad, Solid Waste Management Deputy Commissioners Dr Ajay Gadade (Circle 1) and Santosh Warule (Circle 2), Joint Commissioner Dr Amol Palve, Prabodhan Mawade, Chief Sanitation Officer Satish Sanadi, along with a large number of sanitation officers, inspectors, and staff members.
