NMMC procures new mechanical sweeping machines

Navi Mumbai: As part of its commitment to reach the number one spot among the cleanest cities in India, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has procured six new mechanical sweeping machines. These machines will help to keep the four major roads of Navi Mumbai spick and span. This is being done under the directive of NMMC Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.

While speaking to Newsband, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Solid Waste Management at NMMC, Dr. Ajay Gadade, informed, “We have procured six mechanical sweeping machines to help us in our cleanliness mission. The machines will be able to run on diesel, CNG and also electricity. Currently, sweeping machines that use CNG and diesel as fuel are available, and electric vehicles will soon be inducted into the fleet. The machines sweeping machines with CNG and electric modes will be environment-friendly.”

Dr. Gadade added, “These six machines will be used on four major roads of Navi Mumbai. They include Palm Beach Road, Thane-Belapur Road, APMC Market Road and Amra Marg.”

Elaborating on its salient features, he said, “The CNG and electric run aspects are environment-friendly, it is a compact machine and would not take much road space. It is a new model, and these are more powerful than the previous ones which we had in our fleet.”
