The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been honoured with the prestigious Smart Governance Award for its exemplary performance in digital governance at the West Tech Symposium organised by Adhikari Brothers’ Governance Now Prakashan.

The award was presented to Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar by film producer Kanchan Adhikari and actor Mahesh Thakur during a special ceremony held in Mumbai. Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Sharad Pawar, was also in attendance.

The symposium, which focused on sustainable urban development, aimed to integrate technology with environmental responsibility. It brought together leading e-governance and technology firms, as well as municipal corporations and government institutions from various states, including Gujarat, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.

Under the guidance of NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, NMMC has showcased exceptional use of digital tools in civic administration, resulting in increased efficiency in public service deliveryenhanced transparency in operationsdirect and substantial benefits to citizens

The implementation of e-office systems has streamlined municipal operations, significantly reducing paperwork, improving data security, and ensuring faster access to information. This transformation has not only expedited governance processes but has also contributed to environmental sustainability.

NMMC has successfully rolled out Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, ensuring seamless interconnectivity across all departments. A Unified Dashboard allows for real-time monitoring of municipal activities, thereby improving administrative efficiency.

Currently, 90 key services, including birth, death, and marriage registrations, water supply applications, and property tax payments, are available online, with an additional 15 services in development.

To enhance citizen engagement, NMMC has introduced a grievance redressal system, enabling residents to lodge complaints and track their status via the official website and mobile app. This initiative has made the NMMC more interactive and responsive, garnering positive feedback from the community.

Acknowledging the increasing reliance on mobile technology, NMMC has developed the ‘Majhi Navi Mumbai – My NMMC’ mobile app. This platform allows citizens to access municipal information, make online payments, submit complaints and suggestions and track service requests.

The official NMMC website has also undergone a redesign and upgrade, providing a more user-friendly and informative experience for residents.

The Smart Governance Award recognises NMMC’s dedication to digital transformation, enhancing service delivery, efficiency, and transparency. Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has encouraged citizens to fully utilise digital platforms, ensuring that essential municipal services are accessible without the need for in-person visits.
