Announcement was made following Morbe dam storage reaching 74% of its capacity

Navi Mumbai: Here is some good news for the residents living within the jurisdiction of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The civic body has announced the withdrawal of the water cut, which had been implemented since June 15, 2024.

An official from the civic body informed that the decision to withdraw the water cut was made following the catchment area of Morbe dam receiving substantial rainfall over the past few days, with the dam's capacity now reaching nearly 74 percent of its total. The official further informed that from Monday onwards there will be regular water supply in Vashi.

Despite the onset of the rainy season, the catchment region of the dam had only received 78.60 mm of rainfall by June 15, 2024. At that time, Morbe Dam's water storage was at a mere 26%. As a result, the NMMC had to reduce the evening water supply to manage the limited resources.

Thanking the residents, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Navi Mumbai for their cooperation and understanding during the period of the water cut.

As per the records, the Morbe Dam area recorded a total of 2407 mm of rainfall as of July 26, 2024. This has led to a substantial increase in water storage, now at 74% of the dam's total capacity.
