Announces strict monitoring measures

In a strong stance against female foeticide, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is calling on all citizens to join the effort to prevent this crime and maintain a balanced gender ratio within the community.

In alignment with Central and State Government guidelines, the NMMC has implemented the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 2003, as amended in 2014, to monitor and regulate diagnostic services, such as sonography centers, genetic laboratories, and other diagnostic facilities.

The government has designated the Medical Health Officer as the appropriate authority to supervise and enforce the Act within the jurisdiction of the NMMC.

Currently, 185 registered PCPNDT facilities operate within Navi Mumbai, with each required to undergo quarterly inspections and F-form audits conducted by medical officers to ensure compliance.

The NMMC has also introduced an online application system for new diagnostic centers, streamlining the registration process through the official website at [https://app.nmmconline.in](https://app.nmmconline.in/).

This initiative, led by NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and accountability in facilities where gender determination could potentially take place.

In addition to the PCPNDT Act, NMMC is also implementing the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, and the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) (Regulation) Act, 2021, in line with Central and State Government guidelines. Under these acts, ART clinics (Levels 1 and 2), ART banks, and surrogacy centers can obtain registration following approval from the state government.

To further curb illegal gender determination and sex-selective practices, the NMMC is urging citizens to report any suspected instances of unauthorized abortions or clandestine gender testing. Reports can be submitted through the NMMC's dedicated website [http://amchimulgimaha.in](http://amchimulgimaha.in/) or via their toll-free number, 18002334475.

The corporation has assured that the identity of informants will remain confidential, and as a deterrent to offenders, informants are eligible for a reward of Rs. 1,00,000 upon conviction of the crime, as per government guidelines.

“Ensuring a balanced gender ratio and preventing female foeticide are collective responsibilities,” said NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.

“We call on every Navi Mumbaikar to stay vigilant and report any activities that threaten the well-being of our community,” he said.
