Camps aimed at preventing insect-borne, waterborne, and epidemic diseases

Navi Mumbai: The health awareness camps organised by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) under the guidance of  NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde are receiving an enthusiastic response from citizens. These camps aim to prevent the spread of viral fever, dengue, and other waterborne and epidemic diseases.

In August, awareness camps were held daily at 24 locations through 24 Primary Civil Health Centres, with additional sessions conducted during the Ganeshotsav celebrations from September 14 to 16. Over 107,352 residents benefited from these initiatives.

On September 25, similar camps were organised, attracting 10,780 citizens. During these sessions, blood samples were collected from 641 attendees, who were educated about the risks and preventative measures related to winter fever and dengue, accompanied by practical demonstrations.

The camps featured visual displays of mosquito breeding sites, specifically for Anopheles and Aedes mosquitoes, providing valuable information on how to eliminate these breeding grounds both inside and outside homes.

Residents were urged to cover water storage drums with cloth or traditional garments, regularly clean and dry containers, dispose of scrap materials and tires, and prevent water accumulation on rooftops.

In addition to the NMMC’s efforts, citizens are encouraged to take personal responsibility by eliminating mosquito breeding sites around their homes. Essential practices include maintaining cleanliness, boiling drinking water, washing vegetables thoroughly, and avoiding open food.

Dr. Kailas Shinde reiterated the importance of community cooperation in curbing the incidence of winter fever, dengue, and other waterborne diseases in Navi Mumbai. The Commissioner urged residents to actively participate in these health initiatives to safeguard public health in the city.
