In a bid to combat tuberculosis (TB) and ensure timely treatment for undiagnosed patients, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (NMMC) Health Department has announced the launch of its ‘Active Tuberculosis Detection Campaign’ for 2024. The campaign, scheduled from 23rd December 2024 to 3rd January 2025, will focus on high-risk areas within Navi Mumbai, following the guidelines of the central and state governments.

Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the campaign will be conducted with the support of 80 dedicated teams. These teams will visit a total of 31,803 households, aiming to reach approximately 159,014 individuals.

The goal is to identify those exhibiting symptoms of TB, bring them under treatment, and raise awareness about the disease within the community.

Each team will visit 40 to 50 homes daily, conducting health screenings and engaging citizens in discussions about TB symptoms. Key signs such as a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, prolonged fever, significant weight loss, blood in sputum, chest pain, and lumps in the neck will be closely monitored.

If any of these symptoms are identified, affected individuals will be referred for further diagnostic testing, including sputum sample collection and X-rays, to confirm the diagnosis.

The primary aim of this campaign is to detect as many undiagnosed TB patients as possible and ensure they receive prompt treatment. Dr. Shinde has urged residents to cooperate fully with the campaign, encouraging them to provide sputum samples if they experience any symptoms of tuberculosis.

By participating in this initiative, citizens will help facilitate early diagnosis and contribute to the fight against tuberculosis in Navi Mumbai.
