Navi Mumbai: A new shelter centre for the city’s homeless population has been inaugurated at Ghansoli, providing much-needed relief and refuge for destitute citizens. The Homeless Shelter Centre, located at Plot No. 240, Sector 4, has been opened by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) as part of its efforts to address homelessness in the city.

The centre, a three-storey building, can accommodate up to 103 beneficiaries at a time. Each floor is designated for specific groups, with the first floor reserved for men, the second for women, and the third for families. The facility is aimed at providing shelter for those living on the streets or in the open, ensuring they have access to essential services.

In addition to a safe place to stay, the shelter offers a range of free services, including medical care, meals, clean drinking water, hot water for bathing, and recreational amenities. Homeless individuals are brought to the centre with their consent, following regular outreach and counselling by the shelter staff.

Run by the Aastha Social Development Service Organisation on behalf of NMMC, the centre is part of the municipality’s broader mission to improve the welfare of the city’s most vulnerable residents.

Citizens have also been urged to help by reporting any homeless individuals spotted on the streets, including elderly, women, children, or disabled persons. Reports can be made to Mr. Tushar Pawar at 9881636168 or Mr. Rahul Gadge at 8669393306. The NMMC has assured timely intervention under the guidance of its Commissioner, Dr. Kailas Shinde.

This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing the growing issue of homelessness in Navi Mumbai, offering a lifeline to those who need it the most.
