NMMT launches Online Smart Card Scheme for senior citizens

In a significant development for the seniors in the city, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has launched an Online Smart Card Scheme aimed at facilitating free bus travel for senior citizens. The announcement was made by Dr. Kailas Shinde, Commissioner of NMMC, during the celebration of NMMT’s 29th anniversary.

Previously, senior citizens were required to visit local Pass Centres or the Turbhe depot to complete the necessary paperwork to obtain the Smart Card for free travel. This often-involved long queues and cumbersome processes, which posed challenges for many elderly residents.

To enhance accessibility and convenience, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Department has now integrated this service into the NMMT Bus Tracker App. This innovative approach allows senior citizens to apply for their travel passes from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need for physical visits to the Pass Centres.

Senior citizens can obtain the Online Smart Card by following a simple process. They need to fill out the online application on the NMMT Bus Tracker App, upload the required documents, and pay a nominal fee of Rs.50. Once the application is processed, the Online Smart Card will be sent to them by post.

The transport administration has encouraged as many senior citizens as possible in Navi Mumbai to take advantage of this new scheme, which aims to make public transport more accessible for the elderly population.

The Online Smart Card Scheme is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for its senior residents, ensuring they can travel safely throughout the city.
