NMMT resumes bus service in Uran after nine-months

After a nine-month suspension, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) bus service has resumed operations in Uran taluka, much to the relief of daily commuters. The service halted on February 22, 2024, following an accident at Khopate.

The suspension of bus routes 30, 31, and 34 connecting Uran to Navi Mumbai, including destinations like Koparkhairane, Juinagar Railway Station, and Kalamboli, had caused significant inconvenience to residents. Commuters, including senior citizens, women, students, and workers, were forced to rely on private transport or the limited local train service with an interval of one hour between trains.

Social activist Mangesh Tandel and organizations such as the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Congress Party, Janwadi Mahila Sanghatana, Senior Citizen Organisation, and others had been tirelessly advocating for the resumption of the NMMT bus service. Their efforts have finally borne fruit.

Yogesh Kaduskar, General Manager of NMMT, confirmed that the service has been resumed in response to public demand. "The reopened service will significantly ease travel for commuters and save them time and money. We encourage passengers to take full advantage of this reliable transport option," he stated.

Bhushan Patil, former trustee of JNPT Uran, expressed gratitude to NMMT, saying, “This decision is a victory for the residents of Uran. The resumption of the service will ensure safe, economical, and convenient travel for all, including students and workers. We urge NMMT to maintain the service without interruptions and improve facilities for passengers”.

The absence of NMMT services had heavily impacted daily life in Uran. Students pursuing education in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, in particular, faced challenges due to limited train schedules, making safe and timely travel difficult, especially at night. Workers and office-goers also struggled with increased commuting costs and time delays.

With the resumption of NMMT bus services, the residents of Uran taluka can now look forward to safer and more affordable travel options.
