The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), an undertaking of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, has revamped its popular Books in Bus initiative with the addition of new books. Launched in January 2022, this unique mobile library, housed in Volvo air-conditioned buses, aims to enrich passengers' travel experience by promoting reading and literacy.

Introduced in collaboration with the Let's Read Foundation, the initiative encourages passengers to indulge in reading during their commutes. Initially offering books in Marathi and English, the project quickly became a hit among commuters.

However, wear and tear from frequent handling, coupled with passenger requests for newer and more popular titles, prompted NMMT to refresh the collection. The revamped mini libraries now include a wider variety of genres such as autobiographies, poetry, historical literature, and entertainment stories, featuring both Marathi and English books.

The mobile libraries are available on several key bus routes, including:

  • Bus No. 42 (EV-AC): Vashi Railway Station to Dombivli
  • Bus No. 56 (Volvo AC): Mansarovar Railway Station to Kalamboli Police Headquarters
  • Bus No. 62 (EV-AC): Vashi Railway Station to Kalyan
  • Bus No. 73 (Volvo AC): Panvel Railway Station to Kalyan
