No respite for Panvel residents

With no respite in sight, the water woes of Panvel residents will continue for the near future as the municipal corporation plans to retain water cuts till June 15 subject to the monsoons arriving early.

Amid concerns over dwindling water reserves, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a weekly water supply cut across various areas from March 20.

“To manage resources effectively, a one-day-per-week water cut has been implemented in various areas effective March 20,” RR Tayde, water supply engineer, PMC, said.
Water cut measures have been imposed as a preventive measure to conserve water, ahead of the next monsoon season.
“PMC relies on three sources for its water supply, Dehrang, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, and MIDC. The city requires 33 MLD of water, and the current available stock stands at 398 MLD. Authorities are making efforts to ensure uninterrupted supply, however, the water cuts will continue until June 15 till the arrival of monsoon,” said

Meanwhile, work on the pump house sourcing water from the Patalganga River is expected to be completed by mid-April. With over three lakh residents impacted, PMC has urged citizens to use water judiciously.

PMC has outlined weekly water rationing for different areas:
Friday: Gol Water Treatment Plant (WTP) ESR areas
Saturday: ESR areas near Gangaram Theatre
Monday: Market Yard, Vegetable Market, Chaukani WTP ESRs
Tuesday: Patel Mohalla, Pioneer ESRs
Wednesday: HOC ESR
Thursday: Thana Naka ESR
