As soon as the Chhath Puja celebrations concluded, organisers, in collaboration with the municipal body, promptly began cleanup operations to uphold cleanliness under the Municipal Corporation’s Swachchta mission. Demonstrating swift initiative, the organisers deployed cleaning staff and worked alongside the civic body to clean the banks of ponds and ghats starting Friday.
At Koprigaon Talao in Sector 26, Vashi, one of the largest Chhath Puja venues, approximately 8,000 devotees from Vashi, Koperkhairane, and nearby areas performed rituals during the event. Sunil Kumar, an organiser from the Koprigaon Talao Chhath Association, stated, “The celebration concluded around 8:00 a.m. on Friday, and our cleaning crew began work by 9:00 a.m. They cleared the stage area and the water body, disposing of collected flowers and garlands into the ‘nirmalya kalash’ provided by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).”
Several groups embraced the Swachhta mission by launching cleanliness drives in advance of the puja and maintaining tidiness throughout the festivities. The Navi Mumbai Bihar Association undertook the cleaning of the Nerul pond’s banks—the city's largest water body—along with beautification activities. Despite accommodating over a lakh devotees for the puja, the pond's bank remained pristine, thanks to the association’s efforts. Immediately after the festival concluded on Friday, a large group of volunteers was mobilised to ensure thorough cleaning of the area.
Similarly, around 5,000 devotees attended the Chhath Puja at Kharghar Lake, located in Sector 35, Kharghar. The organisers there also appointed volunteers to clean the lake’s banks meticulously.
