Over 3,000 vehicles in Navi Mumbai get HSRP plates

Over 3,000 vehicles in Navi Mumbai have received High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). Complying with the Maharashtra government’s mandate requiring all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, to be fitted with HSRP plates by March 31, 2025.
As the deadline nears, the Deputy Regional Transport Office, Vashi has been working in full swing to complete the task.
“As many as 12,461 vehicles are registered in Navi Mumbai. Of which, 3,667 vehicles have completed the process,” Gajanan Gawande, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, said.
To ensure the task is completed fast, the installation is being carried out across 27 centres in the city, he added.
Speaking further, the aim of installing HSRP plates he said, “The implementation of HSRP plates aims to improve law enforcement efficiency by preventing vehicle-related crimes. The new HSRP system features a Unique Identification Number (UIN) and a laser code, making tampering difficult and enhancing vehicle security. Hence, it is important for vehicle owners with registrations prior to April 1, 2019, need to get their HSRP plates installed before the deadline”.
What is HSRP?
HSRP or High Security Registration Plates are tamper-proof plates with a unique number and code. These are standard across the entire country and are attached using special non-reusable locks which break if the HSRP is removed making it impossible to be mounted a second time. The government of India mandated the use of HSRP on every vehicle sold after April 2019 and stated this step as a move towards the reduction of road and vehicle-related crimes.
How To Get HSRP?
If you are a resident of Maharashtra an appointment must be booked online through Maharastra’s transport department's official website mentioned below. After selecting the appropriate RTO, submit the information required on the portal and book an appointment at a nearby vendor at a convenient date and time. Do note that the vehicle and phone details must match the one on the Vahan portal.
What Documents Are Needed To Get An HSRP?
Apart from standard documents related to a vehicle such as a registration certificate, valid identity proof is also required to get an HSRP. To book an appointment the mobile number used must also be registered with a Vahan account of the car. At the time of appointment, the owner needs to bring documents already used along with the receipt of payment.
