Navi Mumbai: As part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' fortnight, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) organized a successful 'Swachhata Cyclothon,' with more than 500 cyclists taking part. The event, held under the motto 'Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata,' aimed to spread awareness about cleanliness and environmental conservation through eco-friendly initiatives. The cyclothon was spearheaded by NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde, who also participated in the ride to set an example for the citizens.

Starting from the NMMC Head Office, the cyclists covered a route along Palm Beach Road, passing TS Chanakya Chowk, before returning to the head office. The event highlighted the benefits of using fuel-free vehicles like bicycles to promote self-health and environmental protection.

Along with Dr. Kailash Shinde, several dignitaries, including Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, former MLA Sandeep Naik, Deputy Commissioners Sharad Pawar, Dr. Ajay Gadade, and Dr. Santosh Varule, participated in the event. They all took a collective oath of cleanliness and honoured the cyclists with participation medals.

Cyclists ranging in age from 7 to 68 years, including a significant number of women, joined the ride, which was organized in collaboration with Let's Celebrate Fitness and The Learnyard. The event not only promoted the importance of cleanliness but also encouraged the use of bicycles for maintaining personal health.

As part of the ongoing 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, NMMC has planned intensive cleaning campaigns at local railway stations on September 23, 2024, and at the APMC markets on September 24, 2024. Dr. Kailash Shinde urged citizens to actively participate in these cleanliness drives to contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.
