Mumbai: Renowned Chemical Engineering Scientist, Padma Bhushan Professor J.B. Joshi, has been appointed as the Chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) for its Mumbai-Bhuvaneshwar and Jalana campuses by the Government of Maharashtra. His term, effective from June 20, 2024, spans five years, succeeding Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, who held the position for two decades.

Born in Masoor village, Satara district, Prof. Jyeshtharaj Bhalchandra Joshi, popularly known as J.B. Joshi, completed his education in Chemical Engineering, culminating in a Ph.D. He dedicated 37 years to the University Department of Chemical Technology, serving the last decade as its Director. Under his leadership, the institute gained autonomy and achieved the status of a 'Deemed University,' renaming it from UDCT to ICT. His tenure witnessed the establishment of new courses, infrastructure development, and collaborative research projects with BARC, enhancing the educational environment significantly.

Joshi's contributions to chemical engineering and nuclear science earned him numerous accolades, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize and the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He has supervised 116 Ph.D. students and has served as President of Marathi Vidnyan Parishad for the past decade, promoting research and science through initiatives like science one-act plays.
