Paws, love, and devotion:  How pet parents are going the extra mile

At 14 years old, Caesar, a Labrador retriever with a heart of gold, is spending his senior years in comfort and style. Despite the health challenges that come with aging, he is never alone.

His devoted family ensures his every need is met, and to make his life even more comfortable, a dedicated pet nanny is by his side, providing round-the-clock care, affection, and companionship.

“He is family,” says Shakti Menon, smiling as he speaks about Caesar. “Since the moment we brought him home, he has been more than just a pet. He deserves the same love, care, and privileges as any of us.”

Caesar’s story reflects a growing trend in India—one where pets are no longer just animals but cherished family members.

Across the country, pet parents are redefining what it means to care for their furry companions. Gone are the days when pets were merely status symbols or left alone for long hours. Today, they receive the same level of care and attention as any other loved one.

“In India’s fast-paced urban cities, luxury pet care is not just a passing trend—it has become a necessity,” says Narayan Chavan, founder of Woof Woof Pet’s Care Services. “Pets are no longer just companions; they are integral family members, and their well-being is a top priority.”

As pet ownership continues to rise, so does the demand for high-end pet services. More and more families are turning to professional pet nannies, daycare centers, and even technology-driven solutions to ensure their pets are well cared for in their absence. Whether it’s a long workday, an extended vacation, or an urgent business trip, pet parents are no longer willing to leave their furry companions without premium, personalised care.

“Having a trained nanny or a CCTV system to monitor your pet is no longer a luxury—it’s essential,” explains Falguni Banerjee Naha, a dedicated pet parent. “In nuclear families, where everyone is occupied with work and other commitments, extra support in pet care is crucial.”

This evolving mindset has paved the way for a booming industry—one that seamlessly blends convenience with indulgence. Pet nannies are no longer just caretakers; they are professionals trained to meet every aspect of a pet’s routine, from carefully planned feeding schedules to engaging playtime and exercise.

“Pet sitting has transformed into a premium service where every detail is customized for the pet’s comfort,” adds Chavan. “Many pet owners now expect their pets to receive the same level of care they would get from their family.”

India’s love for pets is evident in the numbers—pet ownership has soared from 26 million in 2019 to 32 million in 2024. As a result, the demand for pet services has skyrocketed, with pet owners seeking high-quality nutrition, holistic grooming, and specialized veterinary care.
