After months of uncertainty, permission has finally been granted to repair the construction work in the W wing of the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Grain Market.

Earlier, in November 2024, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (NMMC) encroachment department had declared the ongoing construction as unauthorized and issued a halt notice.

The construction, which involved demolishing 25,000 square feet of land and consolidating 80 plots for office renovations, had been carried out without the necessary approvals from the APMC construction sub-committee and the board of directors. The work, which began in the name of office renovation, caused significant damage to the original structure of the building, raising concerns about its stability.

The demolition work, which was being done with the help of heavy breakers, affected around 70-80 offices used by traders in the W wing. It was revealed that the offices had been handed over to a private organization for renovation. Due to the unauthorized nature of the work and the potential risks to the structure, the construction was halted in November 2024.

However, after further investigation and an inspection of the building's condition, Suresh Mohade, Executive Engineer of the Market Committee, confirmed that the building is in the C2 category and can be safely repaired. As a result, permission for repairs has now been granted.

The decision has been verified by the Junior Engineer of the Encroachment Department from the Turbhe Municipal Corporation. The repairs are expected to restore and ensure it remains in use for the traders of the grain market.
