PMC celebrates Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti with grand procession and cultural extravaganza

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) organised a grand procession and a series of cultural programs to honour the legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Led by Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh, the event showcased the fervour and reverence of the people towards the great Maratha ruler.

The day commenced with a majestic procession, commenced at 8:00 a.m., with the beats of drums setting the tone for the festivities. The procession, graced by dignitaries including MLA Prashant Thakur, former Mayor Dr. Kavita Chautmol, and Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh, among others, traversed through significant landmarks in the city, culminating in the offering of wreaths at the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The procession was a vibrant display of cultural heritage, featuring women adorned in traditional attire, students from various schools showcasing their talents through Lazim performances, and pictorial chariots depicting pivotal moments from Shivaji Maharaj's life. The enthusiasm of the participants and the onlookers echoed with chants of "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Jai".

Following the procession, a cultural extravaganza unfolded at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Theatre. Renowned artists enthralled the audience with performances, including a stirring rendition of Powada by Rahul Sonavane and his troupe. Dignitaries felicitated participants of Lazim and Chitrarath competitions, acknowledging their efforts in keeping the spirit of Shivaji Maharaj alive.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Prashant Thakur and Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh reiterated the significance of commemorating the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and urged the community to draw inspiration from his valour and principles.

The event, meticulously planned by Deputy Commissioner Kailas Gawde and Dashrath Bhandari, Head of General Administration Department, saw active participation from municipal officials, employees, students, and civic leaders, underscoring the unity and pride of Panvel in honouring its rich cultural heritage.

The winners of the Lazim and Chitrarath competitions were announced as follows:

Lazim Competition:

1. First Place: Municipal School 8

2. Second Place: Municipal School 6

3. Third Place: Loknete D. B. Patil School

Painting Competition:

1. First Place: Changu Kana Thakur New Panvel

2. Special Mention: Loknete Ramsheth Thakur English Medium School and Junior College Kamothe
