In light of the recent reports of the HMPV virus spreading in China, the Panvel Municipal Corporation has urged citizens not to panic. While the virus, Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), has been identified in a patient in India, no cases have been found in Maharashtra so far. The state's health department is on high alert, and appropriate precautions are being taken by the municipal corporation to safeguard public health.

Panvel Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale reassured the citizens, emphasizing that there is no cause for immediate concern. He appealed to the public to stay calm and follow basic health measures to prevent the spread of respiratory infections.

Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), first discovered in the Netherlands in 2001, is a common respiratory virus that causes upper respiratory infections, similar to the common cold, RSV, and the flu. It typically occurs in the winter and early summer months, and it can cause seasonal outbreaks. Though widespread in China, no cases have been recorded in Maharashtra at this time.

The municipal commissioner encourages all citizens to stay informed and follow these simple yet effective precautions to protect themselves and their community.

The Commissioner also shared the following guidelines to keep the virus at bay:

  3. Stay away from public places if experiencing fever, cough, or sneezing.
  4. Drink plenty of water and maintain a nutritious diet.
  5. Ensure proper ventilation in all rooms to reduce the risk of transmission.
