Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) is on high alert as heavy rains continue to affect the region, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for Raigad district. The alert warns of more heavy rain expected on July 26. In response, the Municipal Administration, led by Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, has intensified its efforts to manage the situation, particularly in areas prone to water accumulation.

Since early Thursday morning, Panvel has experienced substantial rainfall. Commissioner Chitale has directed that all emergency systems be fully operational and has instructed ward officers to maintain vigilance around the clock. Additional Commissioner Bharat Rathod conducted inspections in Kalamboli, where waterlogging is being managed with the help of 29 pumps. The aim is to prevent further water accumulation and mitigate any potential flooding.

In Panvel city, Additional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Kailas Gawde assessed flood conditions in areas including Koliwada, Patel Mohalla, and Bharat Nagar slum. The rising water levels in the Gadhi River have led to the evacuation of residents from Kachhi Mohalla and Patel Mohalla. These citizens have been relocated to Urdu Primary School, where they are being provided with food, tea, health services, and water.

With the Meteorological Department forecasting more heavy rain for Friday, the Municipal Corporation has ensured that all emergency systems and relief measures are in place. Kailas Gawde, Deputy Commissioner of the Disaster Management Department, confirmed that the relief system is prepared for any emergency scenarios.

Commissioner Chitale has emphasized the importance of continuous updates from ward officers and has instructed them to maintain robust coordination and planning. In Kalamboli, where water levels are particularly high, ward authorities have been advised to use both diesel and electric pumps to manage the situation. Additionally, the Commissioner has called for close monitoring of the Gadhi River's water level.

The municipal chief assured residents of their safety and security and has urged them to remain calm. The emergency response system is working in full coordination to handle the ongoing situation effectively.
