In strict adherence to the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Act of 2022, specifically section 36 'k', the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process of issuing notices to 1,163 businesses across its four zones. These establishments, ranging from commercial spaces, residential hotels, gift shops, eateries, to public entertainment venues, have been identified for not displaying their name boards in Marathi in Devanagari script.

Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh shared that the notices serve as a response to the mandatory requirement outlined in the Act, directing every establishment's name board, shop, institution, trade business, residence hotels, gift houses, and food outlets to be in Marathi. The Municipal Corporation, in the course of an ongoing survey, has begun issuing notices to non-compliant businesses. The initiative also includes public announcements through speakers in each zone.

As part of the systematic survey, establishments yet to adopt Marathi signboards are being identified, and notices are being issued for corrective action. The process commenced on the previous Saturday, with approximately 1,163 establishments in Zones A, B, C, and D having received notices. Additional Commissioner Ganesh Shete led a meeting with all zone officers on Friday, November 24, 2023, to strategize the subsequent course of action.

Ganesh Shete, Additional Commissioner, PMC stated, "This initiative aims to ensure that all shops and establishments within the jurisdiction of Panvel Municipal Corporation adhere to the requirement of having their name boards in Marathi (Devanagari script), even if the names are written in smaller letters for formalities. The issuance of notices will continue until Saturday, November 25, after which further actions will be taken."

Notably, in the past two to three days, businesses in Kharghar, Kamothe, Kalamboli, and Panvel have proactively begun changing their signboards to Marathi (Devanagari script) following the receipt of notices from the Municipal Corporation.
