PMC prioritizes women empowerment in Rs. 3991 crore budget

In a visionary move aimed at inclusive development, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) unveiled its budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025, amounting to a whopping Rs. 3991.99 crores. Led by Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Mangesh Gawde, the budget presentation emphasized a tax-neutral approach while directing resources towards multifaceted development. Notably, a significant portion of the budget was earmarked for initiatives promoting women empowerment across various sectors within the municipality.

The budget presentation, conducted in the presence of Commissioner and Administrator Mr. Ganesh Deshmukh along with other key officials, highlighted several key allocations aimed at fostering women's advancement and well-being.

Women and Child Development Schemes

An allocation of Rs.225.50 crores was approved to bolster women and child development schemes, underscoring the municipality's commitment to nurturing the potential of its female populace. Among these initiatives is the Panvel Sukanya Yojana, designed to provide financial support for the holistic development of girl children, alongside incentives for higher education abroad.

Health Promotion and Awareness

In a bid to prioritize women's health and wellness, the budget allocated resources towards establishing women's gymnasiums, offering training in yoga and pranayama, and enhancing access to modern toilet facilities. Additionally, provisions were made for monthly funding to support the treatment and care of vulnerable children, as well as initiatives aimed at raising awareness about crucial health issues among adolescent girls.

Self-Employment and Skill Development

Recognizing the importance of economic empowerment, the budget outlined schemes to support women's entrepreneurship, including financing for auto-rickshaws through the innovative Pink Rickshaw Scheme. Moreover, a range of vocational training programs tailored to women's needs, spanning retail management, fashion designing, and small-scale industries, were announced to equip them with valuable skills for economic independence.

Sports and Education

The budget also prioritized the promotion of sporting talent among girls and women, with provisions for scholarships and awards for achievers at state, national, and international levels. Furthermore, initiatives aimed at enhancing educational opportunities, such as the expansion of English-medium schooling and the introduction of e-learning facilities, underscored the municipality's commitment to nurturing the intellectual growth of its female populace.

Infrastructure Development and Urban Renewal

Significant allocations were made towards infrastructure development, including road repair, construction of administrative buildings, and expansion of water supply systems. Notably, provisions were also set aside for slum redevelopment projects, reflecting the municipality's resolve to create sustainable and inclusive urban habitats.
