Panvel: In a momentous achievement, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has claimed the top spot in the ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 4.0’ campaign in the population category of 3 to 10 lakh. This remarkable accomplishment comes with a prize of ₹7 crore, marking a significant recognition for the corporation's environmental efforts.

The success of this campaign has drawn attention to the hard work of former Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh, current Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, and the dedicated staff of the corporation. Their collective efforts have brought pride to Panvel, highlighting their commitment to sustainable practices.

The ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan’ campaign, which started on October 2, 2020, focuses on the five elements of nature—earth, air, water, fire, and sky—with the aim of fostering sustainable living. The latest phase, ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 4.0,’ ran from April 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, with participation from over 22,600 local bodies across Maharashtra, including gram panchayats and civic bodies.

Under the leadership of then Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, a variety of environmental awareness programs were conducted in Panvel. Initiatives such as the ‘Bappa Maja Priyaancha Raja’ campaign, promoting eco-friendly Ganeshotsav celebrations, and the ‘Paryavaran Seva Yojana’ in schools emphasized the importance of environmental conservation through activities like rallies, workshops, competitions, and tree plantations.

Additionally, PMC has made strides in sustainability by installing 100% LED streetlights, introducing a multi-purpose dust suppression vehicle, and reducing electricity costs through solar panel installations.

Commissioner Mangesh Chitale praised the Environment Department's efforts, encouraging the team to maintain their focus on green initiatives. Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate emphasized that living in harmony with nature’s five elements is essential for preserving biodiversity and sustaining life, which is the core objective of the ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan.’
