PMC to introduce toll-free ambulance service for expecting mothers

Panvel: In response to a recent incident where a pregnant mother faced difficulties accessing emergency ambulance services, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to introduce a toll-free number for free ambulance services dedicated to pregnant women. This initiative aims to ensure timely and reliable referral services for expectant mothers and to improve public awareness about the municipality’s facilities.

The decision follows a recent case where a pregnant woman in Pardesi Ground experienced delays in ambulance services. Despite having access to free medical tests and sonography through the Municipal Corporation, the woman encountered issues with ambulance availability when labour began prematurely. The 108 ambulance service was contacted but failed to provide timely assistance, and communication issues further delayed the response. The patient's relatives eventually used a private vehicle to transport her to Upazila Hospital, Panvel, where she delivered safely.

To prevent such issues in the future, the Panvel Municipal Commissioner, Mangesh Chitale, has ordered the establishment of a toll-free number specifically for municipal ambulances catering to pregnant women. This new service will be operational soon, with wide publicity planned to inform the public.

The Municipal Corporation has also outlined the current resources available for pregnant women:

Dr. Rehana Mujawar, Mata Child Care Officer: Mobile No. 93728871230

Driver Narendra Sonawane: Mobile No. 7021572916 (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)

Driver Dharma Gawli: Mobile No. 9594746527 (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)

The inquiry committee's recommendations have been noted, and the Municipal Corporation is committed to enhancing its referral services. The Commissioner has directed the concerned department to take necessary actions to ensure that all patients receive timely and effective medical transport.
