Proposal to name Navi Mumbai International Airport after D.B. Patil gains momentum

A crucial meeting regarding the renaming of Navi Mumbai International Airport was held at the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in Delhi, where leaders from Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Raigad gathered to push forward the proposal to honour the late D.B. Patil. Patil, a prominent advocate for the rights of ‘bhoomiputras’ (sons of the soil), has been widely recognized for his work with farmers and project-affected people.

Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan, part of the delegation, announced that the Mahayuti government has formally decided to name the airport after D.B. Patil, in recognition of his efforts to secure justice and compensation for farmers and locals affected by various projects. Chavan emphasized Patil’s commitment to the rights of ‘bhoomiputras’ and his pivotal role in ensuring their rightful compensation and livelihood security.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Ram Mohan Naidu and Muralidhar Mohol, who, along with other delegates, expressed optimism that the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will approve the renaming proposal. Chavan highlighted how Patil’s legacy continues to inspire many in the region.

Notable leaders in attendance included former Minister Kapil Patil, Jagannath Patil, former MP Ramsheth Thakur, MPs Darishsheel Patil and Srirang Barne, MLA Prashant Thakur, former MP Sanjeev Naik, MNS MLA Raju Patil, and Shekap leader J.M. Mhatre, along with several other influential figures from Thane, Raigad, and Navi Mumbai.
