Kalyan: The Rayta Bridge over the Ulhas river on Kalyan Nagar Road has suffered significant damage following the severe flooding caused by the Ulhas river deluge on Thursday, June 25. The bridge, a critical connector to National Highway 66, was submerged for the entire day, resulting in considerable damage to its infrastructure.

On Friday, as the floodwaters receded, an inspection revealed extensive damage. The road connecting the bridge has developed cracks, the bridge railings were broken by the force of the water. Additionally, large potholes have formed on the road surface.

In response, the National Highway Authority has launched immediate repair efforts. The bridge and its approach roads are being worked on with urgency to restore safe passage. Kalyan Tehsildar Sachin Shejal, along with National Highway officials and local police, conducted a preliminary inspection of the bridge. Although it is a low-height, arch-style bridge from the British era, initial assessments indicate that the structure is still stable.

Tehsildar Shejal emphasized that the bridge will remain closed to traffic until a thorough safety inspection is completed using drones to assess the full extent of the damage and ensure the bridge's safety. The repair work is progressing rapidly, with the goal of resuming traffic within the next three to four hours.

In the meantime, motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as Goveli, Titwala, Mohne, and Shahad Kalyan to avoid the affected area.
