Residents of Sector 25, CBD Belapur, are furious over the continuous plying of heavy vehicles through the busy road connecting Uran Phata to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Headquarters Road, which passes through densely populated residential complexes. Despite repeated complaints, no substantial action has been taken by the NMMC, leaving citizens in danger.
This road, which houses over a lakh of residents across complexes like Ekta Vihar, Nilgiris, Hill View, Nilsiddhi, Bhimashankar Complex, Air India Colony, and others, is also frequented by school children from Ryan International School, further intensifying safety concerns.
“We cross this road multiple times daily to access Nerul for our needs, putting ourselves at risk. The speeding dumpers, trailers, and trucks are a constant threat,” said a resident of Bhimashankar Complex.
Anuj Kumar Pandey, Secretary of the Ekta Vihar Residential Complex Association, criticized the authorities, stating, “Speed breakers were removed for VVIP visits and replaced with ineffective low-height ones. Accidents occur daily, and complaints to the Municipal Commissioner and local leaders have yielded no solutions.”
Residents also allege that false promises were made during elections to divert heavy vehicles, but no action has followed. The mounting frustration has led residents to warn of a road blockade protest with their families if the issue remains unresolved.
Citizens’ Demands:
- Immediate cessation of heavy vehicle traffic on this route.
- Construction of an overbridge from Uran Phata to Apollo Hospital Signal to divert heavy vehicles.
- Temporary rerouting of heavy vehicles through the Kalamboli Highway until the bridge is completed.
