In a peaceful yet impactful demonstration, residents of Sector 16A, Sanpada staged a protest recently against the social disruptions caused by the Reedz Wine Shop located in Radha Krishna Society. Repeated complaints, particularly from women in Ward No. 78, highlighted issues of illegal open alcohol consumption and its adverse effects on the community.

Taking matters into their own hands, Former Municipal Corporator Rupali Nishant Bhagat, youth leader Nishant Bhagat, and social worker Sandeep Bhagat, accompanied by vigilant citizens, protested outside the shop.

Demonstrators adopted the ‘Gandhigiri’ style of approach, holding placards with awareness messages targeted at customers visiting the shop. The protestors also collected discarded liquor bottles littered by intoxicated individuals in the surrounding area and responsibly disposed of them in garbage bins.

Residents expressed frustration over the persistent nuisance caused by drinkers consuming alcohol openly, leading to littering and a deteriorating social environment. “Women and families feel unsafe in the vicinity because of these activities. Immediate action is necessary to stop this menace,” said Nishita Ketkar, a Sanpada resident.

Following the peaceful protest, a formal memorandum demanding strict police intervention was submitted to Senior Police Inspector Pramod Katale at the Sanpada Police Station. The statement highlighted the need for immediate action to curb illegal practices and restore order in the area.
