In an all Indian affair, Manish Chavan the joint third-fourth seed overcame a first game deficit against Amol Kalra, before  bouncing back to win the next three in the pre-quarter-finals round of the Men’s Open Under-40 (MO40) of the third edition of the Mumbai Masters Squash Championship 2024, being played at the Cricket Club of India courts on Friday. Manish won with a score line of 10-12, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.

The Championship that is part of the World Masters Tour and endorsed by the Asian Squash Federation is being organised under the auspices of the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI).

In other matches, top seed Paul Ipe eased past Animesh Kejriwal 11-2, 11-8, 11-4, while the number two seed Sanjay Pawar overcame the spirited Santosh Kharat posting an 11-8, 11-6, 11-8 win progress to the quarter-finals.

In Men’s Open Under-35 (MO35) pre-quarter final encounters, the top two seeds recorded comfortable victories. Arjun Agnihotri the number one seed brushed aside Huzefa Khorakiwala winning at 11-3, 11-5, 11-1, while second seed Prateek Chalia defeated Jehangir Aibara 11-5, 11-2, 11

Earlier on Thursday, Niraj Makhija (UAE) made a positive winning start defeating Kurush Mistry (IND) 11-2, 11-6, 11-5 in a Men’s Open Under-50 (MO50) first round
