In a much-awaited development, the Public Works Department has approved funds for the repair and reinforcement of the Khopte Bridge at a cost of Rs. 5 crore. The bridge, which connects the East and West sections of Uran Taluka, has become increasingly unsafe due to growing potholes that have raised concerns about potential accidents.

The two lanes of the bridge, heavily used by both heavy and passenger vehicles daily, have deteriorated due to erosion of the asphalt layer, leaving the reinforcement bars exposed and loose. The damage has significantly increased the risk of accidents, with vehicles' tires getting stuck in the potholes. The Khopte Bridge has become a major concern for the local community, as it serves as a vital link between various parts of the taluka.

Opened in 1995, the bridge has been in use without an official inauguration. It was designed to carry heavy container vehicles, which has contributed to its frequent deterioration.

Naresh Pawar, Additional Engineer of the Public Works Department in Uran, confirmed that the tender process for the repair is underway and inspections have been conducted. New technologies will be employed to strengthen the bridge, particularly to address the recurring landslides. The repair work is expected to begin soon, ensuring better safety for both heavy vehicles and passengers.
