Sajag Nagarik Manch Navi Mumbai and the Green Valley Walkers Association recently met with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s City Engineer, Shirish Aardwad, to submit a list of demands aimed at improving the facilities and natural environment at Green Valley Park in Sector 9, CBD Belapur.
The key demand from the group is the establishment of an "Open Gym" at Green Valley Park, similar to those found in other parks across Navi Mumbai. The citizens emphasized that the installation of a high-quality, diverse range of equipment will encourage residents to engage in physical activity and enhance their well-being.
Additionally, the group requested the repair of the damaged asphalt road in the area. The road's poor condition was attributed to the transportation of construction materials, such as ready-mix cement and iron, during the demolition of the old water tank at Green Valley. The damage has resulted in further deterioration of the road surface.
The petition also called for the planting of various fruit trees around the water tank and throughout the park. The group suggested planting trees like pipal, vad, chinch, pimpri, and native Indian species to improve the area's biodiversity and provide a natural habitat for birds. They also recommended planting three- to four-year-old trees to ensure their survival.
The group also raised concerns about the reduction of greenery due to the uprooting of trees and the destruction caused by frequent grass fires in the park. To address this, they called for the restoration of the park's natural beauty through tree plantation and environmental care.
Sajag Nagarik Manch Navi Mumbai, along with 71 members of the Morning Walk Group in Green Valley, submitted their statement to the City Engineer. Present at the meeting were key representatives such as Sudhir Dani, Sushant Joshi, Bhimrao Jamkhandikar, and Pritesh Joshi from Sajag Nagarik Manch, as well as Vijay More, Anil Patil, and Sanjay More from the Green Valley Walkers Association.
The group also raised concerns about the quality of equipment used in municipal open gyms, stating that poor quality materials had led to dissatisfaction among users. They praised the installation of high-quality equipment at Mango Garden Belapur and urged the municipality to continue using such standards at other locations.
