The ongoing Winter Calling art exhibition at Art Entrance Gallery, opposite Kalaghoda Fort, has drawn significant attention, particularly for the stunning works of Shubhra Gupta, a talented painter from Old Panvel. Held from November 19-25, the exhibition, presented by Art Oozing, features Gupta’s captivating figurative paintings that vividly express human emotions and moods.

A self-taught artist, Shubhra Gupta, 60, has gained admiration for her use of traditional mediums—oil on canvas and acrylic on canvas. Among her exhibits at Winter Calling are two of her celebrated works: Suman Sudha (oil on canvas) and The Divine Bond (acrylic on canvas). These masterpieces highlight her innate ability to explore and express the complexities of human nature through her art.

With a postgraduate degree (M.Sc.) in Science and a diploma in Russian language, Shubhra attributes her success to her husband, Abhijit Gupta, a former ONGC executive, whose unwavering support has allowed her to pursue her artistic passions. Her love for painting began during her school days, where her talent for portraits and figurative art first came to light. Over the years, encouragement from her family and teachers further nurtured her skills.

“The COVID-19 pandemic became a period of introspection and creativity for me,” shared Shubhra. “It helped me channel my emotions more deeply into my art. Post-pandemic, I participated in several competitions, both offline and online, which brought me significant recognition.”

Her accolades include winning Gold in numerous exhibitions, such as the prestigious Amrita Sher-Gill Award 2024 by Manikarnika Power of Women Online Exhibition and Splash of Colours Online Exhibition 2024. This is her fourth group exhibition in Mumbai, following successful showcases at Tulika Art Gallery, Lower Parel, and the Bombay Art Society.

At Art Entrance Gallery, this marks her second appearance, and she hopes to inspire others through her art. “Art is a powerful medium to express emotions, both joyous and challenging. I aim to spread awareness about how colours can help release one’s feelings and connect with others on a deeper level,” she said.
