The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is grappling with a severe staff shortage, with nearly half of its sanctioned posts lying vacant. The shortfall is impacting administrative efficiency and increasing the workload on existing employees, raising concerns about the corporation’s ability to manage the city’s growing demands.
According to the approved staffing structure, MBMC has 2,570 sanctioned posts across Class 1 to Class 4 categories. However, only 1,234 positions are filled, while a staggering 1,336 posts remain vacant.
Expressing concern over the issue, retired Principal Dr. Suresh Yewale has urged the authorities to immediately fill the vacant positions to ensure smooth functioning of the municipal corporation and relieve overburdened employees.
Meanwhile, the state government had instructed MBMC to submit a detailed report for approval of a new staffing structure. However, despite several months passing, the report is yet to be submitted, leaving many employees deprived of promotions and much-needed recruitment.
Deputy Commissioner Kalpita Pimple stated that the staffing report has been prepared and will soon be submitted to the state government for approval.
The delay in addressing these vacancies has raised concerns over the efficiency of municipal operations, with citizens and civic officials alike hoping for swift action to resolve the crisis.
Key vacancies include:
Class 1: Additional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Medical Officers, Gynaecologists & Obstetricians.
Class 2: Fire Station Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Administrative Officer.
Class 3: Junior Engineer, Clerk, Driver
