Addresses speculation about industry shift

Dispelling rumours about the diamond industry's relocation to Gujarat, Industries Minister Uday Samant clarified the state government's unwavering commitment to promote the diamond and jewellery sector. Emphasizing this commitment, the minister revealed plans to establish the country's largest jewellery park in Navi Mumbai. During his visit to the India Diamond Bourse and the Gems and Jewellery Export and Management Council (GJEPC) office at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Minister Samant reassured the media and stakeholders.

"There is no truth to the speculation that the Mumbai diamond industry is moving to Gujarat. Our government's policy is to bolster the diamond and jewellery sector. To underscore our dedication, we are establishing the nation's largest jewellery park in Navi Mumbai," Minister Samant stated.

To further support the growth of this industry across the state, a committee will be formed to explore opportunities beyond Mumbai. "The state government is fully backing the industry and providing necessary support for its expansion," he added. Minister Samant highlighted that despite some groups considering growth opportunities in other locations, it doesn’t signify closure of business in Mumbai.

The upcoming jewellery park in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, is expected to create over a lakh employment opportunities. The government is open to proposals from entrepreneurs looking to expand their businesses in other parts of the state and will extend the required support. A comprehensive policy is in the pipeline to facilitate this expansion, the Minister disclosed.

The government's support for the Gems and Jewellery industry is robust, with entrepreneurs set to receive assistance in the form of grants and incentives. Minister Samant underscored, "Business expansion is not migration, and the state stands by this commitment."

Present at the interaction were Gems and Jewellery Export and Management Council (GJEPC) Chairman Vipul Shah, President Anup Mehta, Vice Chairman of Bharat Diamond Bourse Mehul Shah, Kirit Bhansali, and other industry representatives, who also acknowledged the state government's significant support for the diamond industry.

Vipul Shah echoed Minister Samant's sentiments, emphasizing that the diamond industry is receiving substantial support from the state government.
