Subroto Mukherjee Cup District level football tournament kicks off with enthusiasm

The District Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2024-25 commenced amidst great excitement and participation, highlighting Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's commitment to promoting sports and nurturing young talent. Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde expressed confidence that this tournament would foster skilled players who could excel at national and international levels. He interacted with students during the inauguration, emphasizing the importance of sports in holistic development alongside academics.

The tournament, jointly organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra State, District Sports Council Thane, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), has drawn 94 teams and over 1500 players. Commissioner Shinde underscored the municipal corporation’s dedication to sports, noting its positive impact on students' future lives.

Additional Commissioner and City Engineer Shirish Aardwad, Deputy Commissioner of Sports and Cultural Affairs Department Abhilasha Mhatre, Sports Officer Revappa Gurav, and other dignitaries graced the event.

Deputy Commissioner Abhilasha Mhatre highlighted Navi Mumbai's recognition as a district for organizing school sports, with over thirty thousand students participating annually. She outlined the significance of the Subroto Mukherjee Cup, where winning teams progress to the national level directly.

The district-level tournament, featuring 36 teams of boys under 15, 36 teams of boys under 17, and 22 girls' teams, is scheduled from June 27 to July 9 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Stadium, Sector-19, Nerul.
