Mira-Bhayander: The Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme, aimed at ensuring 24-hour water supply for the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation area, is set to be completed within the next six months. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik expressed confidence in the project's progress during an inspection tour, effectively setting Diwali as the target for its completion.
The scheme, which will deliver 218 million litres of water per day, had been delayed for the past five years. However, continuous follow-up efforts have accelerated its progress. According to project officials, around 70% of the technical work is already complete, and the remaining 30% will be finished by Diwali. Once operational, the project will provide clean and uninterrupted drinking water to residents across the region.
Minister Sarnaik reviewed several pending components of the project, including the 5-kilometre water pipeline from Vasai Kashid Kopar to the Chene water tank, the crossing of Vasai Creek, high-voltage line work at Kavdas, pipelines through the Chene Forest Department area, a bridge on private land, and the completion of water tanks at Chene. He instructed officials to expedite all pending works immediately.
Sarnaik noted that the water supply issue has become increasingly critical for the residents due to the project's prolonged delay. Having followed up on the scheme since his time as a local representative, he affirmed his commitment, now as a state minister, to ensuring its swift completion and delivering 24-hour clean water to the people of Mira-Bhayander.
