Swachh Bharat Fest honours sanitation workers with drama and cultural performances

Panvel: To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, along with the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, is conducting the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign from September 17 to October 2, 2024. Under the leadership of Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, a 'Swachh Bharat Fest' was organized on September 26 at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Theatre.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste and Sanitation Department, Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, Deputy Commissioner Prasenjit Karlekar, Department Head Anil Kokre, Chief Health Inspector, and all health staff, including sanitation workers.

With the theme of "Swabhava Swachhata Sanskar Swachhata," the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign is being enthusiastically conducted in all four wards of the municipal jurisdiction. As part of the campaign, the 'Swachh Bharat Fest' was specifically organized for the sanitation workers from the Solid Waste and Sanitation Department. A special presentation of the thought-provoking play 'jahan ke andhe raaste', written and directed by Urmi, was performed for Safai Mitra and their families to spread awareness about cleanliness.

In addition to the drama, the event also showcased various talents of the sanitation workers, including singing, music performances, and dancing, offering a break from their daily cleaning duties. The program aimed to provide relaxation and recognition to the hardworking sanitation staff.

As part of the ongoing 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, several activities are being implemented across the municipal sector, with a call for active citizen participation. Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste and Health Department, encouraged the public to take part in the cleanliness drive and support the initiatives.
