Thane: In a strong protest against the increasing incidents of violence against women and children in the state, Mahavikas Aghadi activists blocked the highway at Teen Hath Naka in Thane. The agitation was sparked by the brutal abuse of two minor girls in Badlapur, Thane district.

The protest was led by prominent leaders, including former Shiv Sena MP Rajan Vichare and NCP city president Suhas Desai. As the protestors gathered, the police, anticipating possible unrest, deployed personnel from Naupada, Thane Nagar, and Wagle Estate police stations to maintain order.

Despite the heavy police presence, tensions escalated when the protesters attempted to move towards the main road. A heated exchange ensued between Rajan Vichare and Deputy Commissioner of Police Burse, leading to a physical confrontation. The police used force to disperse the crowd, but the protestors, determined to continue their demonstration, walked to the nearby police station, resulting in significant traffic disruption in the area.

The protestors, including several women officials from Shiv Sena (UBT) and other Mahavikas Aghadi factions, demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators of the heinous crime in Badlapur. The protest highlighted the growing frustration and anger over the safety of women and children in the region.

Condemning the heinous crime in Badlapur, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) under the guidance of District Chief Vitthal More has protested at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Vashi on Wednesday 21st August 2024 at 11:30 am.
