Thane medical students achieve top honours in research and quiz competitions

Thane: Students from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College have recently achieved outstanding success in various academic and competitive events.

Nimai Bhavsar, a third-year MBBS student, won first prize at the State Level Research Competition 2023-24 organized by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik (MUHS). Bhavsar presented a paper titled Predictive Value of Hemoglobin to Creatinine Ratio for Contrast-Induced Nephropathy, which explored the risk of future kidney failure based on a patient's hemoglobin to creatinine ratio. This research project has been selected under the Short Term Studentship (STS) Program for the National Level Research Fellowship of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The research was conducted in the biochemistry department of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College under the guidance of Mohit Rojekar, with assistance from pediatrician Dr. Jayesh Panot.

In another achievement, Parikshit Saklani and Kedar Modi, also from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College, secured the first prize in a national-level quiz competition organized by the Department of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery at Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai. The competition saw participation from 72 teams across India, with Saklani and Modi emerging victorious among the five finalist teams.

Additionally, Shubham Patil, a second-year MBBS student, won the second prize in the Inter College Poster Competition held at World Breastfeeding Week-2024. This competition was organized by Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College and Cooper Hospital, Vileparle. Patil’s entry was guided by the social and preventive department of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College.

The achievements of these students have been praised by Vice-Chancellors Dr. Swapnali Kadam and Dr. Milind Ubale, and Principal Dr. Rakesh Barot, who has encouraged and supported their academic endeavors.
