Thane Municipal School No. 88 Food Poison Case: Commissioner confirms stability of students' health after mid-day meal incident

In a concerning incident at TMC School No. 88 in Diva Agasan of Thane Municipal Corporation, several students exhibited symptoms of nausea after consuming their mid-day meal on Thursday, 17th October. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao promptly addressed the situation, stating that the condition of all affected students is stable.

Following the report, a team of expert doctors from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital was dispatched to the school for a preliminary examination and to provide first aid to the students. The incident occurred during the morning session when students from classes V to VII were served khichdi as part of their mid-day meal program. Shortly after, several students reported feeling unwell.

Dr. Anirudh Malgaonkar, Medical Superintendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, led the medical team, which thoroughly examined the students. While a few students required hospitalisation, the medical staff confirmed that their conditions remain stable. Deputy Commissioner of Education G.G. Godepure assured that both the school administration and the hospital's expert team are diligently overseeing the care of the students.

In response to the incident, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was notified. A team from the FDA visited the site to collect food samples and inspect the kitchen and surrounding areas. Commissioner Saurabh Rao emphasized that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the incident following a comprehensive investigation.

“The health and safety of students remain a top priority”, added Commissioner Saurabh Rao.
