Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell receives 3,977 complaints in 2024

The Regional Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) received a total of 3,977 complaints in 2024. The highest number of complaints were related to fire incidents and fallen trees, with the Disaster Management Department successfully averting significant damage through prompt rescue and relief operations.

The complaints, which were immediately addressed by the Disaster Management Cell, were handled with the cooperation of several agencies, including the fire brigade, tree authority, public works department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police, as required. Y. M. Tadvi, the Disaster Management Officer, stated that the department’s quick response helped prevent major losses to citizens.

Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, the Disaster Management Cell remains on high alert for emergencies, coordinating with other municipal departments and agencies for swift and efficient relief operations. The efforts are overseen by Additional Commissioner (2) Prashant Rode and Deputy Commissioner (Disaster Management) G. G. Godepure.

Some notable rescue operations by the Disaster Management Cell in 2024 include:

  1. December 2024 – Ten young trekkers trapped in Sanjay Gandhi National Park were rescued after being attacked by bees.
  2. December 2024 – Rapid intervention saved two elderly people at Cosmos Residency who were attempting suicide.
  3. October 2024 – Firefighters contained a major blaze at a company in Wagle Estate, with support from neighbouring municipalities.
  4. September 2024 – Ten residents were rescued from a fire on the 11th floor of Dev Kopora.
  5. July 2024 – Five children were rescued from a mountainous area near Khadi Machine.
  6. July 2024 – Thirty citizens were safely evacuated from the MMRDA building in Manpada after a fire in the electrical cable ducts.
  7. March 2024 – Sixty-five passengers were rescued from a BEST bus that caught fire at Kasarvadavali Signal.
  8. February 2024 – About 90 residents of Lodha Amara Society in Kolshet were safely evacuated during a garbage fire in a plumbing duct.
