The Eastern Freeway Extension project, stretching from Ghatkopar to Anand Nagar in Thane, is poised to revolutionize connectivity within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The 13.4 km elevated road, featuring 3+3 lanes, will seamlessly extend the existing Eastern Freeway from South Mumbai to Thane, bypassing congested city roads and providing a faster route for commuters.
The project will feature intermediate ramps between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg Junctions, as well as Kanjurmarg and Airoli Bridge Junctions. This will allow smoother access for traffic from Powai, Bhandup, Mulund, and Navi Mumbai. With these enhancements, the project is set to significantly reduce travel time and congestion, improving overall mobility across key regions in MMR.
Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Chief of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), shared his vision for the project: "The Eastern Freeway Extension is a transformative initiative that will enhance regional connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. This project is a step forward in our mission to make MMR more accessible, sustainable, and efficient, ensuring a seamless travel experience for millions of people."
