Thane aims for 100% TB eradication

Thane: With Thane city ranked fourth in Maharashtra for tuberculosis (TB) control, authorities have proposed organizing ward-wise health camps to accelerate efforts toward complete TB eradication. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has been urged to deploy additional manpower for intensified screening and treatment at the local level.
On World Health Day, a felicitation ceremony was held at Late Narendra Ballal Auditorium to honor the best-performing staff of the TB Department. City Tuberculosis Officer Dr Prasad Patil was specially recognised for his leadership in the eradication campaign. Other awardees included Nikhil Lingayat, Ashok Borole, Sadhana Jadhav, and Swapnali Bhalerao.
TMC is the only civic body in the country providing an additional Rs 15,000 monthly honorarium to TB health workers in recognition of their high-risk work. The department also received a boost through CSR contributions Rs 1 crore from Mahanagar Gas Limited and Rs 1.25 crore from Mint Corporation.
