Thane: Thane Municipal Corporation’s (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao recently conducted a comprehensive review of the Thane-Borivali subway project, which promises to cut the travel time between Thane and Borivali to just 12 minutes.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is spearheading this ambitious subway project, which received its initial blessing from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A significant portion of the subway will run beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

During the review meeting, representatives from MMRDA and the construction company outlined several issues concerning the Thane Municipal Corporation, including land acquisition, removal of encroachments, and obtaining necessary permissions from the Tree Authority. Attendees included Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, Assistant Director of City Planning Sangram Kande, Deputy Commissioner (Parks) Manohar Bodke, and Suburban Engineer Vikas Dhole.

Municipal officials have visited the construction site for a detailed inspection. Commissioner Rao assured that once a joint inspection is completed, decisions will be made regarding the shifting of water channels and creating a separate entryway for the park.

Given the substantial water requirements for construction, Commissioner Rao recommended using treated water from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). An assurance was given to coordinate water supply with the municipal construction department to ensure a smooth implementation of the project.
