The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is taking continuous measures to resolve the traffic congestion and other issues faced by citizens on Ghodbunder Road. In a meeting held on January 14, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao outlined the Corporation's ongoing and upcoming efforts to improve the situation.
Commissioner Rao emphasized that a permanent solution for traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road will be discussed after consulting with neighbouring regions such as Navi Mumbai and Mira Bhayandar to allocate space for heavy vehicles outside Thane city's limits. He also highlighted the immediate actions to be taken, including the trimming of dangerous trees and tree branches and the cleaning of drains, ahead of the monsoon season.
The meeting, which included officials from the Traffic Police, Municipal Corporation, Metro, MMRDA, and Public Works Department, focused on addressing issues that impact residents and commuters. To alleviate traffic problems, it was decided to engage the Transport Department to deploy an additional 100 trained wardens to assist with traffic management. Coordination between the Traffic Police and the wardens will also be enhanced.
One of the major concerns raised by citizens was the ongoing garbage issues along Ghodbunder Road. Commissioner Rao supported the suggestion to impose fines on individuals throwing garbage in public spaces, with the aim of promoting cleanliness. The Deputy Commissioner, Manish Joshi, also mentioned plans to implement mechanical cleaning of roads in the coming days.
In response to road conditions, Commissioner Rao emphasized the need for temporary traffic closures to allow for proper road work. He suggested discussions with the Transport Department to explore the possibility of closing traffic during repairs. He also directed officials to focus on areas where potholes occur every year and to complete the work on the service road from start to finish.
Further improvements to the road infrastructure will include the installation of lane markings, direction indicators, dividers, zebra crossings, and additional lighting. Commissioner Rao also directed the repainting of damaged zebra crossings due to dust accumulation and ordered the removal of abandoned vehicles from the road.
