Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is actively enforcing measures against illegal hawkers operating within its jurisdiction, following directives from Commissioner Saurabh Rao. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Shankar Patole, the enforcement actions target the Naupada, Kopri, and Wagle Estate areas, focusing on clearing unauthorized vendors from public spaces.

During a recent operation involved a thorough sweep around Thane Railway Station, where hawkers operating within a 150-meter radius were removed. The crackdown extended to footpaths along Rammaruti Road and Gokhale Road, where encroachments were cleared, restoring pedestrian access.

Additionally, significant actions were taken at various hotspots, including Jambli Naka, Thana Market, and the Vegetable Market, where unauthorized hawkers and fruit sellers were targeted, and their goods confiscated.

In the Kopri Up Prabhat Samiti area, the administration dismantled hawkers operating at Ashtavinayak Chowk, Narayan Koli Chowk, and Kapda Market, further contributing to the effort to reclaim public spaces for citizens.

The enforcement also addressed illegally parked vehicles along Road No. 16, Road No. 22, near the Passport Office, and the Toyota Showroom area, ensuring a cleaner and more organized environment.

Deputy Commissioner Patole confirmed that manpower has been deployed in two shifts each day, coordinating closely with police and traffic departments to maintain order and ensure the success of these operations. “The crackdown is part of the ongoing commitment of the Thane Municipal Corporation to regulate street vending and enhance urban aesthetics, ultimately benefiting residents and pedestrians alike”, informed an official.
