TMC starts tree pruning ahead of schedule

To prevent tree-related hazards during monsoons, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has launched its pruning campaign two months early, starting in March instead of the usual May-June schedule.

Sandeep Malvi, Additional Commissioner said that 6,367 trees across key city areas, including roads, public spaces, and residential zones, have been identified for branch removal to prevent accidents, especially those involving power lines.

A survey in various wards has also identified 150 dried trees, which will be removed following legal procedures. The pruning process prioritises safety while preserving natural tree growth and protecting bird nests.

TMC’s Tree Authority Department is coordinating with local representatives. The collected green waste is sent to TMC’s Green Waste Management Centre in Kopri for organic fertiliser production.

Citizens are urged to report hazardous trees to the Disaster Management Cell at 1800-222-108 or 8657887101.
